FLC Kids Community Day Camp

FLC Kids is excited to host Community Day Camp this summer from July 21st – 24th, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm daily at FLC ($10 total per camper). Children who have completed grades K-5 are invited to this fun-filled week of songs, crafts, games, and growing in their faith with counselors from Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry (VLM). Click here to find out more information and to register.

Young Adults Gathering

The Young Adults meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 6pm. Join us on Thursday, April 24 we will meet at 6:00pm at Duluth’s Best Bread at 120 E. Superior St.

Gender Affirming Resource Fair

Saturday, May 10, 1 to 4pm

FLC, the Teen Closet, LSS and OutFront MN are partnering together to hold a gender-affirming clothing drive and resource fair on Saturday, May 10 from 1 to 4pm here at FLC.

The current needs for this event are men’s clothing, of all sizes and styles. Please drop off any new or slightly used clothing in the baskets outside the sanctuary. We appreciate all donations.

Migrant Justice Fundraiser Dinner

Thursday, April 24 5:15 to 7:30pm

The FLC Migrant Justice Teams invites everyone to a the first Migrant Justice Fundraiser and Dinner. Join us on Thursday, April 24 from 5:15 to 7:30pm at Peace Church. Sign up at the You are Loved Table to reserve a spot at one of the two tables that have been reserved for First Lutheran.

In Praise of Bach Recital

St. Michael’s Catholic Church (4901 E. Superior Street) hosts the Arrowhead American Guild of Organists In Praise of Bach recital. Freewill offering and auction of homemade food items to benefit our scholarship program. Banana Bread Baking Bonanza

Our Whole Lives Parent Education Series

We will meet Sunday, May 4 at 9:45am in the Parish Hall. The sessions are designed to meet the needs of adults raising children of a wide age range, from elementary through high school. Like the OWL Sexuality Education series for youth, these parent sessions build comfort in talking about sexuality-related topics and offer skill-building activities. The sessions address topics provided in OWL curriculum for ages 12-15 (grades 7–10), but these Parent Education sessions focus on the participants’ needs as parents and caregivers. Please click here to read the full description of the Parent Education Series. Candlelight Vigil for Murdered & Missing Women

National Day of Remembrance

Monday, May 5 7 to 7:30pm at FLC

Join First Lutheran & Gloria Dei Women of the ELCA & the FLC Racial Justice Team as we gather together for a prayer vigil being held to remember and honor the Indigenous women who have gone missing, been murdered, or suffered from violence. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness, provide support, and seek justice for these women and their families.

The prayer vigil is open to people of all ages, genders, and ethnicities who are committed to standing in solidarity with Indigenous women and communities. We welcome each of you to join us.

Dialogue in Action – Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers for this year’s Dialogue in Action Series presentation by Jemar Tisby on Tuesday, May 6. We have many options including door greeters, registration, ushers, and the reception (food prep, table monitor, clean-up). Speaker Series Book Study

The Spirit of Justice

The FLC Racial Justice Team will be leading a book study on “The Spirit of Justice” by Jemar Tisby, in preparation for the Tuesday, May 6 “Dialogue in Action Series” event where the author will speak. We are excited to support the FLC foundation with this book study. We encourage everyone to consider reading the book and joining into discussion before the author arrives, and also a time of reflection post event.

The books the church has ordered will be arriving soon so we can start selling copies in the gathering space starting Sunday, April 6 in between services and each Sunday afterwards until May 4. Others will be able to purchase books the day of the event.

We will have a discussion sign-up sheet at the book table to be able to plan a schedule of meeting days and times. Look for more information next week with the chosen schedule. Looking forward to learning with you.

Dialogue in Action Speaker Series

We invite you to join us on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, for an evening with Dr. Jemar Tisby, renowned historian, speaker, and bestselling author. His works include The Color of Compromise, How to Fight Racism, and his latest release, The Spirit of Justice: True Stories of Faith, Race, and Resistance. Joins us at 5:30pm for a moving musical prelude to Jemar Tisby’s 6pm keynote, featuring Borealis Chamber Artists in a celebration of women composers.

Meals for those living at Chum’s St. Francis Apartments.

FLC has been making 25 individual meals each month for the elderly long term homeless folks living at Chum’s St. Francis Apartments for several years. We are looking at changing that program over to monthly meals. We need your help!

On Wednesday, April 30 from 9 to 12 noon, please join us in the FLC Kitchen to make 3 different meals for up to 50 folks, that can be frozen and served for lunch at St. Francis in May, June, and July.

If you have a favorite one dish meal recipe you would like to share, or if you are interested in helping, please email MarySchmitz754@gmail.com.

New Member/Inquirers Lunch

We are having a New Members/Inquirers Lunch on Sunday, May 18 at noon in the Parish Hall. Rhubarb Festival Jam Making
