I’ve been taking a few more walks since COVID-19 disrupted our normal rhythms and routines. In doing so, I found myself more attentive to things I often overlook or take for granted: the varying degrees of warmth due to the angle of the sun and the direction of the wind; the beautiful songs of robins who I didn’t even notice had returned; and even the large “cat” tracks in the snow and mud at Bagley Nature Area. In the calming of our busyness, in the quieting the hustle and bustle of society these days, we can witness something marvelous: the song and praise of creation. Though we are unable to worship together in person this year for Easter, we can hear and learn how to join the voice of creation in singing an Easter praise for new life. Though technically not an Easter hymn, the prominence of creation and the abundance of Alleluias makes “All Creatures, Worship God Most High!” (ELW 835) one of my favorite hymns to hum, sing, and play in the Easter season.
May we too learn to take our part, “and worship God with humble heart” alongside creation.
