Food for the Journey

Story of Faith by Craig Grau
God seems to be more real to me when I feel least capable. For instance, in the mid-1970’s FLC was asked to sponsor a refugee family from Vietnam. They had been allies of our country during the Vietnam War and after it they were living in a camp on a U.S. military base. The family had 12 members at the time and there was a national recession in which Duluth was fully participating. FLC includes and included many giving members with important skills and community contacts that were very, very important to this successful resettlement. But I was the head of the resettlement committee and there were then 12 members of a family from another culture and only one could speak English. I worried about all sorts of real and imagined problems especially late at night. The phrases, “Thy will be done” and “Let go and Let God” became more than words. They let me feel closer to God and allowed me to fall asleep.
Gracious One, thank you for the peace that comes when we are able to turn things over to you.
In Christ’s name- Amen.
